Founded on August 9, 1871, and moved to its current location in 1895, the KULBS (Imperial University and State Library of Strasbourg) became the Bnu (National and University Library) by decree in 1926, thus acquiring its unique status as a national public administration institution (EPNA) under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
In this historic setting, in the heart of the listed Neustadt district, the modern and light interior renovation contrasts with the exterior facades adorned with the patron saint figures of European writers, poets, philosophers and scientists. This architectural contrast reveals the true nature of Bnu: a modern, innovative library, open to the city and to Europe, striving for excellence in the service of all.
Today, Bnu is a leading multidisciplinary research library in the human and social sciences, with unique collections. It is also a major cultural venue.
For those who wish, a tour of BNU will be organized after the workshop.
