According to the carbon assessment carried out in 2024, travel is the main source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the University of Strasbourg, accounting for 47% of total emissions. Travel by the entire university community has a real environmental impact across the region. The sustainable mobility plan aims to address the challenge of decarbonization and improving air quality, as well as promoting quality of life and health on campus in relation to mobility, explains Noémie Hoff.
Envisioning a different form of mobility
In order to obtain accurate data, a survey was conducted in 2025 with the support of the University Data Platform (PUD-S), the Faculty of Geography and Planning, the Strasbourg Statistics Center, and all of the University's support services. We started with a typical week for students and staff, asking them to provide information about their current means of mobility, but also to imagine another form of mobility , adds Noémie Hoff.
11.1% of students (6,013/54,372), 13.4% of doctoral students (302/1,915), and 35.4% of staff (1,952/5,516) responded to the survey.
