Tell us about you!

My name is Hazan Dal and I am 23 years old. I am from Turkey. I study economics at Middle East Technical University along with a minor in psychology.

My specialization is behavioral economics which aims to understand further the human behavior in economic aspect as opposed to the idea rational homoeconomicus.

Why did you choose the University of Strasbourg ?

I chose this University because at the age 13, I decided to learn french language and culture better. [...]

In my history classes, I studied French Revolution and [...] I am touched by seeing how French culture advocates to fight for the rights and a better future. Since then, it was my dream to immerse in this culture and learn french.

Strasbourg is a great city, a cosmopolitan city with kind and friendly people and a rich history. I see no reason not to choose this city!

What piece(s) of advice would you give to an international student coming to the University of Strasbourg?

I believe most important thing to do is to prepare yourself to step out of your comfort zone and learn to be open-minded in order to meet new people and cultures.

Definetely go to every event that you can go, have trust in people that you meet and always be open to them

Did you have the opportunity to try any of the University of Strasbourg's programs for international students? If so, which ones, and what did you think of them?

I went to mardi gras -themed event, from the buddy programme. Organised by the International relations office-. Event was really nice, them was great and the team was amazingly kind and welcoming! Appreciate their hard work and efforts

How has this experience influenced you personnaly or academically ?

I feel free, my perspective has been widened in a lot of aspects with learning new cultures

Is there a habit, a tradition or an aspect of the local culture that surprised you when you first arrived ?

I love how everyone says bonjour to the workers, we do that too but it might now be as common as it is here, especially to bus drivers

What would you say to encourage an other international student to come study in Strasbourg ?

Just do it! You will not regret it, there is no reason to hesistate. It is a welcoming and charming city with a secure environment
